What Makes Us Valuable Now? Navigating the New Paradigm with Sarah Basha

In this episode of Out of the Trance, my good friend and astrologer Sarah Basha and I begin a new series exploring the deeper shifts shaping our world. Together, we ask: How do we make sense of the enormous changes happening around us—economically, technologically, relationally, and in consciousness—without getting pulled into fear?

We begin with Chiron’s movement from Aries into Taurus,  a seven-year generational shift that takes us from questions of identity and individuation into the territory of embodiment, material reality, values, resources and, importantly, self-worth.

What happens when the structures we’ve used to determine our value begin to change? And as AI transforms our relationship with work, productivity and knowledge, where does human value actually come from?. We look back at the pandemic as a kind of collective initiation, a moment that brought fear to the surface, but also clarified what mattered to many of us - and ask what that period may have been preparing us for.

We talk about difference between left-brain and right-brain ways of knowing, and the possibility that intuition, creativity, embodiment and our capacity for relationship may become increasingly important in the world we’re moving into. We also explore what it means to reclaim our inner authority in a culture that has taught us to continually look outside ourselves for answers.

We look at Pluto in Aquarius and Saturn in Aries, the shadow side of technological change, and why I think part of this next paradigm requires us to reclaim our own inner authority rather than continually outsourcing it to experts, teachers or gurus.

And we go deeper into some of the questions underneath all of this: the limitations of language, intuition as something we often feel before we can explain it, clock time versus soul time, our relationship with mortality, and whether true freedom might ultimately be freedom from fear.

Finally, we bring the conversation back to the body with practices for navigating this period more intentionally - listening to your own intuitive language, creating the conditions for contemplation, and using tools like tapping, self-hypnosis, heart-focused breathing to reconnect with yourself in times of uncertainty. A wide-ranging conversation about what we value, how we know what we know, and what it might mean to become more fully human as the world around us changes.
